Gutted

It's been a while since our last update for the simple reason of we haven't spent much time at the airstream recently. To say progress has been slow would be an understatement! However, we do have the airstream fully gutted now and ready for the next stages. We got everything out of the airstream, did a few more dump runs, and took the interior skins off to get behind the walls. We removed about 20 bags worth of old insulation, some in decent shape, some damp from the leaks. After removing the skins and taking a look at the insulation, we feel good about our decision to fully gut the airstream. We also took out all of the wiring  and will re-wire the whole thing to better suit our needs. While it will be more work, we don't want to take any risks with old wiring.

We ended up vacuuming the walls and floor multiple times, and using a wire brush on a drill to remove all remaining insulation bits from the walls. While it's still a stretch to say it looks good, it certainly looks better... to us at least!

We have three major next steps to undertake: Leak and weather-proofing, sub-floor, and re-wiring. We are hoping to start with the windows and repairing any leaks first, ideally before the rains really hit this fall/winter. We are starting to get a good list of supplies needed, so this will probably be our focus for the next little while. After this (or simultaneously, depending on how efficient progress is) the next step will be a full sub-floor replacement. After that, re-wiring and then re-installing & painting the interior skins. The goal for now is to get the airstream to a clean, bright empty shell to re-build the interior. We think this next phase will be the most work, but we're excited to get back at it and make some progress.
